I think this poem contains these three 'energies' in a really interesting way. The first two are more obvious, because the poem is emotional right off the bat as the speaker fires off existential questions like "why was I born? / why must I die?" Powell also curates a strong voice by repeatedly using "I" throughout the poem, making this questioning very intimate and introspective. The story he creates is a little more unclear, but still works in a unique way. On the surface Powell is simply reflecting on teenage angst, but the language he uses is filled with violence and seems to spin a narrative much bigger than his own life. This is clever because thats exactly what teenage angst feels like, making the story Powell creates both small and large at the same time.
