ABOUT THE instructor:
My name is Mat Wenzel. I am a PhD student at Florida State University. I'm studying English literature with an emphasis in Creative Writing: Poetry.

I was a high school English teacher in Utah for 10 years before I came to Florida. While teaching, I earned my M.Ed. from Lesley University and my MFA from Ashland University. I also completed a certification in teaching English to English language learners.

Before that, I earned my B.A. in English from The Master's College in Santa Clarita, California. I'm originally from New Hampshire. I am the first in my family to graduate high school.
I sincerely want to make this course as applicable to your studies and future career/life as possible. I'll do my best to communicate expectations clearly, while also giving you room to make the assignments work for you. Please feel encouraged to ask questions and share your insight. I hope to build a class community in which ALL participants feel safe to take risks, to speak honestly and openly--with the dignity and respect that all humans deserve.
