First day of Class
Class Log for Monday, January 9 The class began with time to fill out an index card with some personal introduction information. Basic information like names, pronouns, and majors were shared with the class. Today, there were only 5 students, but administrators have assured us that the class will fill up. Either way, we will continue to work together to learn and become better writers. The poem of the day was also read—The Bat by Ellen Bryant Voigt. Students read the course policy sheet. The course policy sheet can be found on Blackboard, but most of the information for the class will be updated on http://matwenzel.wixsite.com/2135. The exception to this in grades; grades will be posted on Blackboard. The course policy sheet explained a general outline of the course that focuses on genre and research. The class is centered around three main writing projects: (1) a personal narrative, (2) a research project, and (3) a multi-genre remix. Students must receive at least a C- on all these projects to get credit for the course. Their overall grades must also be at least a C-. The attendance policy is also a little different than students may be used to. Students are in jeopardy of failing the course if they miss more than four classes. No distinction is made between excused or unexcused absences. Other important information is available in the course policy sheet. A brief discussion about Wix was squeezed in before the time expired. Students are responsible for creating a Wix website that has a page dedicated to reading and homework, a page for project 1, one for project 2, and one for project 3. Your web address for your Wix site and a statement explaining that you have read the civility clause and promise to adhere to it should be mailed to the instructor by next Wednesday mw16@my.fsu.edu Students signed up for three presentation dates. Every student is required to sign up and present. The instructor also encouraged students to ask questions and stop by office hours if further help or clarification is needed. There will be no class on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Students placed their index cards on the table at the end of class. This is how attendance is taken.
