At the start of class everyone filled out an index card discussing how they felt before and after their conference about their paper. We then went on to read the poem of the day, which was “Photo of a Girl on a Beach” by Carmen Gimenez Smith. Next we went a little more over project one, as there was some confusion on word count. The decided word count for project one is 1000 words and it is due on February 8th. We then discussed how we have to write reflections for our projects. We have to write one for our conference with Professor Wenzel, and another for when our papers get peer reviewed, however they could be combined if you’d like. You post these reflections on you wix website under that particular project. Mykela lead the discussion on plagiarism and had several students in the class read their submissions aloud. Next we had a lesson on plagiarism, we talked about how plagiarism today is viewed not as bad because people are constantly taking other peoples work and remixing it. We discussed how plagiarism in this class would lead to an F since you need at least a C- on all of the projects to pass. We then went over the FSU honor code, and what the different types of plagiarism are. The different types of plagiarism are deliberate, forgetting to use quotation marks, blatant borrowing, and sloppy paraphrasing. Next we discussed common knowledge and how it can be difficult to tell what common knowledge it because it can be different for everyone. We then did exercises regarded plagiarism with that class ended.
