As usual, we started off the class with a poem of the day called Eclogue at Midnight by Yusef Komunyakaa. Sofia then gave the mini genre presentation about Jimmy Kimmel’s Mean Tweets segments. She discussed its conventions, like its humorous way of presenting offensive opinions and showed 2 videos that got a few chuckles out of the class. Mr. Wenzel then took over to clarify some details about the two upcoming assignments, the interview and the annotated bibliography. This was followed by tips on how to conduct a successful interview and how to use Purdue for source citations. To wrap up the day, Caven led a discussion furthering the topic of Chapter 5. He gave a very inspiring talk about why it is important to choose a topic you feel passionate about when writing the research paper.
