Beth's Log

The class started off with the poem of the day which was Sheep in Fog by Sylvia Plath.

We then moved on to talk about our Project 1 grades. All the papers are graded and on Blackboard. If you received a zero, it is most likely that your email got lost or you never emailed it to Mat in the first place. You cannot discuss your grades over email so if you want to talk to Mat about your grades, it needs to be in person. Mat also mentioned that it is important to put the title of what you are sending in the email subject line so he can find it better. If you received a low grade that you are not happy with, it is okay because it is a working portfolio and you have time to improve it and receive a better grade. If you do want to fix your paper, there are a couple steps you must take. You must first make a Revision Plan. All the details and expectations for the Revision Plan can be found on the class website. You also need to make and attend an appointment with the RWC.

Mat then talked about some confusion about turning things in for class. Everything should be posted on your Wix site but assignments such as final drafts should always be emailed to Mat as a word document.

We then moved on to genre presentations. Sabrina gave her presentation on Crash Course videos and Caven gave his presentation on the defensive line.

Then, we had class discussion. Franklin led a talk about direct quotes and citing sources and Renee talked about MLA format for citing sources.

Next, we got into our “peer/writing groups” to discuss our annotated bibliographies with our classmates. We each had to write an in-text citation and some people were selected to write theirs on the board.

We finished the class talking about the analogy of a snake and how a research paper starts some place but as you go along, it tends to goes other places and change from what you had originally.
