Kimberly and Brooke's Log
We started off class today, November 6, 2017 by sending an email to Mat today and what grade we wanted for our second paper. Mat read aloud Sometimes in a moment of Déjà vu by Joshua Jennifer Espinoza http://joshuajenniferespinoza.com/post/96676541837/poem-from-my-first-full-length-book-im-alive after discussing the plan for today. McKinley read aloud her log from our last class http://matwenzel.wixsite.com/2135/single-post/2017/10/30/McKinleys-Blog . Mat informed us that our 1,500 word draft as well as our organizational summary and plan should have been emailed to him already. Our final draft is due on Monday, November 13, 2017 and we will also have a blog on Chapter 10 due on the thirteenth as well. We are also supposed to have emailed the 1,500 words to our response group and CC Mat in this email. Now that we are moving into Project three Mat wants us to look at these mini-presentations as possible sources. McKinley shows us the trailer of season seven of American Horror Story https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9uMWKPdnPA&pbjreload=10 . She describes how this video in her blog https://mb16af.wixsite.com/2135/single-post/2017/11/02/Non-traditional-Text-Presentation . After questions were answered about American Horror Story Mat took over and said that this important to use for project three to discuss our topic in an interesting way. Nick showed us this ASMR video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUUAu_aiaVw and discusses the video further in his blog https://nra166.wixsite.com/enc2135/single-post/2017/11/06/Non-traditional-Text-Presentation. Mat asks us to take another “votey-poo” were we say whether or not this video was “orally pleasurable”. We discuss the purpose of ASMR videos and how they can be used to help people.
Kate, Ethan and Alex wanted to talk about the organization of our final portfolios and how to best stay on track of keeping our Wix site updated. Kate brought up her blog and discussed how she changed the layout to include working and final portfolios and projects. We discussed how we would each format our own blogs and gave each other feedback. Mat mentioned the “one mistake” you can make is that everything on your blog is either too complicated or too basic. The final portfolio should include descriptions of our piece, and we are welcome to revise our blog and send in a new organizational summary. Marya brought up her blog and showed us how she had her projects and blogs organized chronologically. Olivia was a bit confused about how her blog was set up, but we all agreed that it was a great example of a blog that included her projects as stories, including photos and titles that read as a webpage. Her blog can easily be transformed into one of the 3 genres for our third project. McKinley asked about whether or not we should include our drafts as texts or links to word documents. Mat said our future audiences are more likely to read our final drafts if they are in text versions, with our working drafts uploaded as documents. Mat then transitioned into making a rubric for our second project, which we would all assist with. Mat referred to the syllabus that outlined the technical requirements of our project as well as the guiding questions and Piktochart. We then wrote down the top 10 things we wanted to be graded on for project 2 and shared with our neighbors and then the class. Mat mentioned that while there is no maximum word count, our project should be a reasonable length and not drag on. Mat mentioned that he doesn’t always take into account the submission of each draft, but rather looks at and grades our working portfolio at the end of the semester. Mat then organized the rubric according to our suggestions and his opinion. He said that he would continue organizing the rubric and post the final version on his blog.
