Cassie's Log

At the start of class, Mat went over what we were going to do that day. Mat then read us a poem, Sheep in Fog by Sylvia Plath. It can be found at https://allpoetry.com/Sheep-In-Fog. Then Alex read his log from before the break. Then we went online to a weighted grade calculator and calculated our grades. We put in 70% for our Projects, 20% for our working portfolio, and 10% for participation. After we calculated our grades we wrote our prospective grades on our card for today.

Then Ethan did his mini presentation. He did his presentation on the official college football videos of Clemson and compared it to FSU’s official videos. Then the class discussed why FSU and Clemson are so different in their approach to videos. One student pointed out that we had a series filmed last year, so FSU may not need a new video series. Mat pointed out that our football program doesn’t need funding as it is already well known. Ethan’s presentation can be found here at https://ethanvaughan.wixsite.com/mysite/single-post/2017/11/26/Mini-Genre-Presentation.

Then Jake did his mini presentation. He did a clip from the show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The clip was one of the main characters on the news describing the events of the night before where he was almost mugged and fought back with his guns. The clip is addressing the gun debate using common arguments. Jake’s presentation can be found here at https://jbk16b.wixsite.com/mysite/single-post/2017/11/21/Non-traditional-Text-Presentation-Frank-Reynolds-and-Guns.

Then Cole did his presentation, and it was the last presentation of the class. Cole did his presentation on Tom and Jerry in the genre of children’s cartoons. The clip was one of Tom trying to flirt with a beautiful lady cat in the wild west. Mat pointed out the rampant misogyny in Tom and Jerry and the class discussed whether Loony Toons was made for children or adults. Cole’s presentation can be found here at https://cdb16f.wixsite.com/mysite/mini-presentation.

After presentations, Mat made sure to let us know that we should come talk to him if we have any questions regarding anything. Then we started our pitches and Mat wanted us to make our pitches interesting and they are made to get people to listen to you. Before we started our pitches, Mat gave us the opportunity to practice our pitches with our neighbors. We then presented our pitches to the class in alphabetical order. At the end, Mat mentioned that our next class was an optional work day for project three and attendance was not mandatory if you have less than four absences.
