Mat's Log
On Monday, class began with everyone introducing themselves with some basic information like their names and their majors. This information was also written on an index card and turned in at the end of class as a means of taking attendance. Then Mat went over the syllabus. Various students volunteered to read selections. Highlights were that the course is made up mostly of 3 projects and blog posts, the attendance policy, the grading policy, and the civility clause. There is a “quiz” on the course Canvas site about the syllabus that all students should take before the deadline. Students then went online and created a Wix (www.wix.com) website that will serve as their portfolio for the class. There is a new blog feature on Wix, and this caused some confusion. Some helpful information can be found at https://support.wix.com/en/new-wix-blog/setting-up-the-new-wix-blog. Mat will discuss blog features more in the future. The first homework assignment was discussed as well. Students should write a blog response to Chapter 1 of the Bedford Book of Genres on their Wix website. Then they should link their blog post in the comments section of the required reading on the class webpage. Name, section number, and a brief description of their blog should also be included. Finally, student signed up for 3 presentations on a sign up sheet that was passed around. Mat forgot to read the poem of the day.
