Brendan's Log

· Matt reminded us about going to the library next class (I think)

· We listened to a poem through an mp3 recording by the author Miguel (didn’t get the last name)

· A lady from FSU resources came in to talk to us about opportunities on campus

· CHA is a prevention program trying to stop things from happening on campus (ex: HIV)

· Anything we tell this ladies program is kept quiet, opposed to telling our professors where they have to report what we say

· Provide:

o Emotion counseling

o Academic accommodation

o Referrals for things not on campus

· Griffin showed us his mini-presentation

o Talked about hockey flow today and back in the day when people had mullets and stripes in their hair

o They always winked in the camera

o Fros in 2014 were popular

o Mustaches were huge when this video was created

o He said that this was dry humor where the creator based how good a hockey player was based on their hair

o Makes a video every year and the players get trophies and money for how good their hair is

o Audience is mostly teenagers and anyone interested in hockey that gets the humor

· Told us to write on our card what “Consider the Lobster” was about

· Talked about who has eaten lobster

· Consider the lobster is our mentor text for the 2nd paper

o Chose this because it is about a lot of different things

§ Presents facts about the origin and anatomy of Lobsters, author talked about Lobster festival and also went to it. Also researched how people cook lobster

o Goes against our research expectations because its making a lot of arguments

§ Sounds a lot like a high school research paper

· True or false, our project is only about 1 thing?

o False

· True or false, your project 2 will make an argument?

o True

· True or false, your 2nd project has to be based on academic research

o False, most is our on the ground research

· 10 total sources, 7 must be academic sources

· “genre” is not a useful term in 2018

· Analyzing “Consider the Lobster” by talking about its meaning, genre, and what type of text we believe it is

· Mat made fun of how in high school we didn’t write anything bias because it was bad even though everything we do has bias

· Showed us “This is Water” by David Strickland

· Helped us upload things onto Wix

· Reminder to meet in the library Thursday
