Brandon's Log

We began class by listening to a poem titled “And the trees talked to me” by K.M. Clark. Next Lauren read her log from the previous class. Matt reiterated that he hates Glamour. Regen was meant to lead the discussion but was postponed to Monday. Matt announced that class on March 7 is cancelled. Nick presented today, his mini presentation was a YouTube video on comedian, George Carlin talking about politicians. Matt asked why we we’re talking about close analysis, emphasizing that for Project 2 we need to analyze our sources carefully. Next, we turned to our neighbor and discussed about what we wrote on our index cards, specifically about what we think analysis is. In addition, Lou, Kristy, and Neako discussed with the class what analysis means in their field. For class we analyzed old advertisements, for example we watched the video, “This is your Brain on Drugs” 1980’s PSA and wrote down 10 details that we observed. After sharing some of our observations, we talked about the different logical arguments (see list below) for this video. The next video we talked about is the “This is your Brain on Drugs” 1990’s PSA and wrote down 10 details that we observed, afterwards we talked about our observations. The last drug video we watched is the “Your brain on drug policy” 2017 PSA. Next, we watched the advertisement “It’s Time – Marriage Equality – Get Up! – Australia” after discussing our observations, we watched the videos “Dove Real Beauty Sketches”, “Ikea – Lamp”, and “Old Spice – The Man Your Man Could Smell Like”.
