Isaac's Log
Today in class, Mat started off by playing “1984” by Audrey Lorde and had planned for a guest speaker from the Career Center to come and they did not show up. We read the log from March 6th from the other ENC -2135 class. After that, we reviewed the process of revising papers. When Mat grades a paper and puts it on Canvas and we are not happy with the grade, we have the option to make a revision plan and then make an appointment at the RWC to work with the feedback given. He also stated that anything above an 85 percent on project one and two would guarantee an A for the class if all the blogs and presentations were done properly. After that, there was mass hysteria and confusion over blog #10 and whether it was due or not, it is in fact due on March 28th. Next, we did an activity where we talked to our neighbor about our problems with project #2 and then people shared the general problems with the class for a discussion. Mat stated that project #2 is not a research paper, the tone, and style of writing is dependent on the community chosen. He also said that some professors judge a paper by the opening lines and that we should make sure to have an MLA header, avoid grammar mistakes, avoid generalities and consider our desired audience for our papers. Kristy then gave a presentation on the “Take Your Pills” trailer and we discussed as a class how the advertisement was working and how it diverged from the genre expectations.
