This course will develop your skill in identifying, researching, and manipulating genres that are practical to your chosen field of study and that you find interesting.
Genre knowledge and practice will be applied to communities in which you have been or are already a part of, communities you are gravitating toward, and communities for which you have an important message.
Listen to the first episode "The Habitat" as a mentor text for creating a community profile. Focus on the part before the break (around the first 12 minutes). What do you notice about this introduction? What strategies do the producers use to create a a profile of the community of the participants in the experiment?
Put your thoughts (at least 3) on an index card and bring it to class Thursday.
