Today instead of meeting in the normal classroom we met in Strozier Library where we were met by Liz Dunne who is an instruction and reference librarian. She started by giving us a brief overview of what we were going to be doing today and telling us all of the resources that Strozier has to offer. We then headed to a computer room where we all logged on and went to the library’s website, www.lib.fsu.edu. Once we all got to the website, we clicked on databases and then found the letter “A” to find Academic Search Complete. While on Academic Search complete Liz told us how important key words are in order to find the perfect source and how we should put our key word phrase in quotation marks to make our search more accurate. She then told us about AND/OR/NOT which is a method used to link our key words. Liz then clarified the difference between a academic journal and a peer review. An academic journal is created by authors are an expert in the particular field whereas a peer review is created when someone submits information to be put in an academic journal and that information is peer reviewed by other experts and continuously updated/revised until it is ready to be uploaded. For about 10 minutes after that we played around with key words and searched for sources in the database that would go along with our research paper topic. We ended the library session by looking at databases by subject.
