We began class by writing down 3 sentences about a time we were asked to analyze something. Mat asked us what we learned about bias and how Homer and Rockville changed our views on bias. We then discuss and analyze the podcast for a couple of minutes. Mat then uses some time to discuss our progress on the personal narrative and the first parts of the research project. We talk about text analysis and what it means to reverse engineer text and we begin to analyze a couple of different texts. Those were: the Gettysburg address, 3 different "this is your brain on drugs" videos, a video about gay marriage in Australia, a dove video about self-image and, lastly, an old spice commercial. Mat ended class by telling us we have a quiz tomorrow and to write down what bias played into the idea that immigrants caused the crime rate to skyrocket.
