Wednesday!
Hello wonderful students! I hope your Spring Break was great AND that you were able to get some writing and researching and podcasting done. I was unable to line up a speaker for Wednesday, so we will be having an "online" class Wednesday.
Please comment below describing, quoting, and explaining an excerpt from your work so far that you are proud of.
In the same comment, post a question or concern you have about a different element of your work. Please respond to at least two comments with words of encouragement, considerations, suggestions. Use "I" language, like "I got a clear picture of xyz when you wrote...." or questions like "Have you considered?" Let's use effective feedback strategies, and not meaningless praise or prescriptive and authoritative solutions. This counts as a class attendance, so make your responses of quality and length that shows you put in some thought and time!
I will see you all on Friday. I'm looking forward to hearing about your work!
"The lifestyle and values lived out by kappa women is what drew me to them and has shaped and guided me through this time of growth in my life as it has so many of the women in our chapter. The women of Kappa Kappa Gamma are my sisters to which I love and are forever grateful for. They have relief me of any feelings of incompetency, lonely, and unconnected and replaced them with love, encouragement, friendship."
Meeting the required word count even though I feel as if I have fully exhausted my topic.
"Being completely immersed in a different culture is a life changing experience."
This is a quote from my interview that i felt was very powerful and is something that i could use as a main idea/theme for my paper.
My main concern is including researched information, because there is not a very large amount of info that I needed to research.
gmanj99: You could try researching groups at other schools that are similar to the one you are focusing on, and get info about their effectiveness.
bellainmiami: Not sure if this is something that you've already included but you could find statistics about latino representation in Tallahassee to use as credible sources.
"Most notable place on campus designated for C.A.R.E students is the Thagard building. This building sits in the heart of FSU where it is easily accessible by all students in the program; not strictly to solely CARE members. Thagard in itself reminds me of a miniature version of the Florida State University campus because it has everything that I need in order to excel in college; from computer labs to life coaches. Not to mention the CARE staff and faculty members."
The excerpt above briefly explains/ outlines the main function of the Thagard building which houses the CARE program . I explained how the building compliments the CARE program in a way in such that it satisfies CARE students' need…
"When you grow up in a place rich with diversity, where Latino culture is celebrated everywhere, whether that’s in restaurants, art, music, or clothing, you forget that in other places in our country, even just 7 hours away, Latino Americans are widely unrepresented in our government, media, and culture. Something that has been such a big part of me, felt like it was fading away."
This excerpt of my paper describes my transition into moving to Tallahassee and is my introduction into describing how the greek community offers ways to connect me back to my Hispanic roots.
What I am most concerned about is incorporating credible sources an research into my paper. So far its been a lot of observation,…
"SAAC is a representation of our student athlete voice, so we have representatives more so two from each sport. We meet biweekly, and we discuss the student athlete experience and how to make it better. They are the voices of their team."
This was taken from my interview with Sarah Petronino who is in charge of the Student Athlete Associate Council. Here I asked her what was SAAC was for those who were unaware of this group, and a little background of what they do.
The issue I am having is formulating the paper as a whole, as well as finding research for my topic/community which is stressing me out a little.
