Wednesday, July 3

Starting off the class we drew pictures on our index cards showing a single scene from our personal narrative. Matt reminded us that we do not have class tomorrow (Thursday), as well as the fact that we MUST sign up for a conference time regarding our narratives (you can do so here https://doodle.com/poll/cxvtnhti628w2rx7). These meetings will be held on Monday and Tuesday (July 8-9) at the Sweet Shop in front of Landis. Due to these meetings we will not be having class on those days- so yes- you get to sleep in for a few days. Bring your best revised version of your draft at the time; this draft should consist of at least 1,000 words and this is YOUR paper, so bring questions for Matt! This is for YOU! He is reading it as a human, and although this is for advice and help, he is not going to give us direct instructions as we know already, so come ready to criticize YOUR own work for the betterment of YOUR own writing.  Moving on, Madeline gave us a presentation from a musical that originally premiered in 2015 and was followed by Joe’s presentation on online dating through eHarmony. After the presentations Matt gave us a description of Project 2. Remember that this is the community project, meaning that this essay should be about a community you are gravitating towards or thinking about joining; this community has to be accessible to you either here in Tallahassee or online. The essay must consist of no less than 3,000 words coming from the research that you do on the topic; research should come from 7 different sources, 5 of which must be academic. One of the major parts of this project is figuring out how to organize your paper, so put some thought into what you put where. Remember that structure is a text and indicates a message, so be sure to think about your theme/overall message prior to writing words on the paper. For next class (which is not until Wednesday) come prepared with the following: what community you are drawn to, how you will get access to this community, and what texts you think you will find there.
